Online exam maker

The online exam maker for real exams, not forms.

Set the rules a formal exam needs: server-enforced timing, access codes, one attempt, shuffled questions and verified email. Then grade every script to one standard.

How it works

Set, sit and mark an exam in three steps

  1. 01

    Build the paper

Write questions across nine types or draft them from your material, assign points, and add a marking guide for anything graded by hand.

  2. 02

    Set the conditions

Open a run with a time limit, deadline, single attempt and access code, and require a verified email when you need to know who sat the exam.

  3. 03

    Invigilate and mark

Follow the run live, grant an extension where it's warranted, then mark long answers against a frozen marking guide.

Conditions you can defend

The clock runs on the server, not the browser

A refreshed tab, lost connection or late start never resets the clock: the deadline is enforced server-side. Shuffle question and answer order so no two people see the same paper, and cap attempts to one.

  • Time limits and deadlines enforced server-side
  • Question and answer-order shuffling per participant
  • One attempt, or a set number you decide
How access control works
Watch the room

See who has started, finished or stalled

Live monitoring shows each attempt as it happens, so you can spot someone who never began or ran out of time. Grant extra time or an extension without ending the run for anyone else.

  • Live view of every attempt in the run
  • Per-participant extra-time multipliers
  • Extensions granted mid-run, not restarts

Marking that holds up

Grade every script to one standard

Objective questions grade themselves the moment answers arrive. Long answers queue with a marking guide frozen for the run, so every candidate is judged the same way, with every override on an audit trail.

  • Auto-grading for all objective question types
  • Frozen marking guide across the whole run
  • Score overrides kept on an auditable record

The details that make an exam trustworthy

Verified email identity

Choose anonymous, name-only or verified email per run. No participant accounts required.

Honest about anti-cheat

Deterrence through shuffling, timers, codes and attempt limits. No webcam or browser lockdown, and we won't pretend otherwise.

Corrections after the fact

Exclude a flawed question, award credit or accept another answer after submission, and affected scripts regrade automatically.

Extra time, built in

Give a candidate a 1.25× or 1.5× multiplier before the run, or a one-off extension during it.

Reusable across cohorts

Run the same paper for September and January as separate runs, each with its own window and results.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the online exam maker free?

Yes, to start. The free plan covers 75 responses a month with timers, access codes, shuffling and the full dashboard; paid plans from $19/mo add volume and team seats, priced by responses not features.

Is this an exam builder or an exam delivery tool?

Both. The exam builder covers writing and generating questions across nine types; delivery adds runs, access rules, live monitoring and grading, so one tool takes the exam from draft to results.

Can candidates cheat their way past the timer?

No. The time limit and deadline are enforced on the server, so refreshing or reopening the tab won't buy extra time. Attempts are capped and questions shuffled, but this is deterrence, not surveillance: no webcam, screen recording or browser lockdown.

Do candidates need to create an account?

No. They open the link or enter the access code and begin; for a formal exam, require a verified email so each attempt ties to a real person, with no TestSetGo signup.

Can I give someone extra time for access needs?

Yes. Set a per-participant time multiplier before the run or grant a one-off extension while it's live, and neither affects any other candidate's clock.

How are long-answer questions marked?

They go to a manual grading queue with a marking guide fixed for the run, so every candidate is judged consistently. You can override any auto-graded score too, with every change on an audit trail.

Can I reuse one exam for several sittings?

Yes. Each exam can run many times, and every run gets its own window, code, settings and results, so sittings never mix.
